Hi, I'm Ian.

I'm a brand and lifestyle photographer based in Kendal, in the heart of the Lake District.

I create authentic photography for brands, businesses and people who want imagery that feels real, engaging and connected to the world around them. Whether that's a global outdoor brand, a local independent business, a tourism organisation or a personal brand looking to tell their story, my job is always the same: create photographs that people connect with.

My background is slightly unusual for a photographer.

Before picking up a camera professionally, I spent more than twenty years working within businesses, from small independent companies through to international brands. That experience taught me that great photography isn't really about photography at all.

It's about communication.

It's about understanding what a business stands for, who it serves and how it wants to be seen.

That understanding still shapes every shoot I undertake today.

Having worked in marketing, business development and commercial environments before becoming a full-time photographer, I understand the challenges businesses face when creating content. Every image needs to work hard, whether it's destined for a website, social media campaign, brochure, advertising campaign or press release.

Over the last fifteen years I've worked with businesses large and small, creating brand photography, lifestyle imagery, personal branding content, outdoor campaigns, commercial photography and visual storytelling projects throughout the UK and beyond.

My work often combines people, products and places.

The Lake District provides an incredible backdrop, but I don't use landscapes simply because they're beautiful. I use them because they create context. They help tell stories. They create emotion and they help brands connect with their audience on a deeper level.

Many of the businesses I work with are rooted in adventure, wellbeing, tourism, sustainability, hospitality and the outdoors. These are industries I genuinely understand because they mirror many of the things that matter to me personally.

Away from work you'll usually find me running trails, swimming in cold water, exploring the fells with Oz, my Border Collie, or attempting another ultra-marathon. I've been alcohol-free since 2020, spend most of my life in minimalist sandals and have developed a habit of turning up to commercial shoots looking slightly more like a wizard than a photographer.

Thankfully, clients seem to like that.

What matters most is creating an environment where people feel comfortable enough to be themselves. The strongest brand photography rarely comes from perfect poses or forced smiles. It comes from genuine moments, real personalities and authentic connections.

That's what I aim to create on every shoot.
